At Little Dental Studio, we believe restorative dentistry should be as gentle and thoughtful as every other part of your child’s care. While our goal is always prevention first, there are times when cavities or tooth damage need to be treated to protect your child’s oral health and comfort.

As a boutique pediatric dental practice in Alexandria, VA, we take a calm, unhurried approach to restorative care. Every treatment plan is individualized, and we take time to explain options so parents feel informed, confident, and supported.

When decay is present, we use tooth-colored composite fillings to restore your child’s tooth. These fillings blend naturally with the surrounding teeth and allow us to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
Our approach to pediatric fillings is:
  • Conservative in approach
  • Gentle and compassionate
  • Precise and detail-oriented
  • Focused on comfort and long-term health
We take extra care to ensure your child feels safe, relaxed, and supported throughout the visit.
When a tooth has more extensive decay or structural damage, a dental crown may be recommended to protect and strengthen it. At Little Dental Studio, we offer several mercury-free crown options, including:
  • Zirconia (white) crowns
  • Composite (white) crowns
  • Metal crowns, when clinically appropriate
The right crown for your child depends on the location of the tooth, the amount of healthy structure remaining, and your child's individual age, development, and needs. Our goal is always to find the best balance of strength, comfort, and appearance.
We believe restorative treatment should be:
  • Necessary and evidence-based
  • Personalized to each child’s needs
  • Gentle and unhurried
  • Focused on long-term oral health
We never recommend treatment unless it is truly needed. We also never pressure families into decisions. Every recommendation is based on what is best for your child — now and in the future.
Many of the children we care for are very young, anxious about dental visits, sensory-sensitive, or have had difficult dental experiences in the past. We understand this, and we design our restorative visits with patience, flexibility, and empathy. Our environment is calm, our team is gentle, and our pace is guided by your child, not the clock. We believe that preserving trust is just as important as restoring teeth.
At Little Dental Studio, we take a whole-child approach to pediatric dentistry. In addition to treating cavities, we also consider:
  • Oral development
  • Oral comfort and function
  • Breathing patterns and airway health
  • Overall growth and development
This allows us to provide care that supports not just your child’s teeth, but their long-term wellbeing.

If your child has been diagnosed with a cavity or needs restorative treatment, we are here to guide you through the process with clarity, compassion, and care.

Every child is different. Every treatment plan is individualized. And every experience matters.

How do I know if my child needs a filling or a crown?

Dr. Angela will evaluate the extent of the decay or damage and recommend the most conservative option that adequately protects the tooth. Smaller areas of decay are typically treated with a filling, while teeth with more extensive damage or decay may benefit from the added strength and protection of a crown.

Are the fillings at Little Dental Studio tooth-colored?

Yes. We use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend naturally with your child's surrounding teeth. In addition to their appearance, composite fillings allow us to preserve more of the healthy tooth structure compared to older filling materials.

Is restorative treatment safe for very young children?

Yes, when performed by an experienced pediatric dentist. Dr. Angela has extensive experience providing restorative care for very young patients, including toddlers and infants. We take special care to ensure the experience is as calm, gentle, and comfortable as possible regardless of your child's age.

What if my child is anxious about getting a filling or crown?

This is something we are very experienced with. Our team is trained to work patiently with anxious and sensory-sensitive children, and we never rush a child through treatment they are not ready for. We also offer nitrous oxide and, when appropriate, general anesthesia for children who need additional support to feel comfortable during restorative care.

Do baby teeth really need to be restored if they are just going to fall out?

Yes, in most cases. Baby teeth play an important role in your child's ability to eat, speak, and smile comfortably. They also hold space in the jaw for incoming permanent teeth. Leaving decay untreated can lead to pain, infection, and complications that affect both the baby tooth and the developing permanent tooth beneath it.

How can I prevent my child from needing restorative treatment?

Prevention is always our first priority. Consistent brushing and flossing at home, a balanced diet low in sugary snacks and drinks, regular dental visits every six months, and preventive treatments like fluoride and sealants all work together to significantly reduce your child's cavity risk.
